February is almost over!?!?

Wow, I can't believe that it is almost March! Where did February go?

Well, Gavin did well at his over night with his great aunt Barb and family. They all had a blast and the kids told me that Gavin said his first word, which according to them was "cow." Not sure about that one, as he does make some interesting noises.

We wanted to wish a belated Happy Birthday 1st Birthday to our friend Calla! You can check out pictures on our "Calla' link to the right, she is such a doll. I can't believe that she is 1. Or that our friend Charli will be 2 this summer! My how the babies are growing up!

The funeral for Mitchell was yesterday. I feel very fortunate that I am not a funeral veteran, as I only have been to a few in my life. I was amazed at the turn out. Being only a sophomore in HS, there were many students present. They had the Palmyra football team as honorary casket bearers, they all wore football jerseys and many other students were there from both Columbus and Palmyra. Everyone said the same thing, Mitchell always had a smile on his face. He came to the hospital after we had Gavin. And they hung out for about an hour. I don't know many boy teens that would have done that.

Stella is doing alright, she was unable to go to the funeral. This stuff is really hitting her hard. I hope that what she is able to eat is keeping her nourished, because she has lost a lot of weight and is very pale.

Grandpa Mundt seems to be getting slowly better. Last nights up date has his IV tubes out and if he continues to do better they will move him from the ICU soon. And is sounds like the incident with the colon was possibly an ulcer that escalated with his fall.

AM I CRAZY?

Wow, I knew this day would come. Yet I am mixed with feelings of being ready yet not. What am I talking about? Tomorrow night will be my first night away from Gavin. :( Brian has an award banquet for work. It is at Ameristar Casino and they are buying us a room. It will be a great night out but I am sad to leave my boy. My aunt Barb and uncle Dennis will be watching him and their 3 kids are wonderful helpers, so I know he is in good hands. I guess it is just one of those mother things.

Stella is doing alright, I just hope this chemo is the answer.

Other news to report...Grandpa Mundt is in an incredible amount of pain. Sending love and prayers to Colorado! Also a dear friend of the family died yesterday in a car accident. Mitchell Tomek-15 yrs old. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Mike and Diana Tomek family. (Diana is my godmother and a very close friend/co-worker of my mom)

WOW!

Well, it's been a while but I am attaching the pictures that I promised. Also January 31st Gavin got his first teeth! That is right, my boy doesn't do anything one at a time, he has both feet in his mouth both hands, and now two bottom teeth! Ah! I can't believe it, there will be a mouth full before you know it. I hope he lets me catch a picture sometime, he doesn't even let me put my finger in there to feel very well.

Spiderman, Elmo and Stella

Okay, so I think my parents are really getting into this grandparenting stuff. Especially dad. Friday he came to see me at SMF and brought Gavin a Elmo pizzeria toy. It sings 'yummy, yummy, yummy pizza pie." Then the pizza in Elmo's hand starts singing "yummy yummy toss me in the sky!"(of course the pizza has a cheesy Italian voice) (Ha, I just said cheesy and was talking about pizza!) Gavin didn't know what to think at first but he is enjoying it as well as his Chicken dance Elmo he got from them for Christmas. Then yesterday (Monday) dad stops by again, this time with a "larger than Gavin" Spiderman! He is soft and pillow like. I brought it home to the little guy last night and...well just like everything else (including his feet) he immediately went into his mouth and he growled at Spidey! But I got some cute pictures of some hugs and kisses with him too. I will post those later.

Gavin's wasn't feeling well Sunday morning, vomiting every time he ate, but never having a fever or anything else flu like, and it got less and less by Sunday night there was nothing the matter.

Stella also hasn't been feeling well, but chemo will do that to a person. She also stopped by on Friday with some forms she needed faxed for work. She is trying to file for disability and FMLA and catastrophic leave. Some how the state can make 2 of the 3 work at the same time to help cover her insurance for a while. She looked okay Friday, but wasn't doing so well over the weekend. It usually took till day 2 or 3 after her chemo to really knock her down. But she also has a household with a puking Lucas, talking to much Tracy and coughing Max. So not 100% sure if chemo is to blame for her ruff weekend or not.

Well that is all I know for now! Please keep mom in thoughts and prayers. And also pray that she can keep her insurance she really is worried about having insurance to help cover the little bit that they cover!

Request

Just a small request. Please keep Stella in your thoughts. Today she starts the chemo and that whole process all over again. The doctors sound very positive that this treatment will work, so lets all pray and keep the fingers crossed for good measure.

Christmas, Stella and pictures

Wow, much to update. Gavin's 1st Christmas went well. He was a blast to watch and we all were spoiled rotten. He is doing well with cereal and veggies, so we have started a couple of fruits. He had his 6 month check up and we are happy to report that he is still in the 30-34 percentile! Weighing in at 16 lbs and 15 oz. And measuring 26 inches long! The doc says we are doing well, so we get to keep him :)

Also Happy Belated Birthday to Lucas who is now 11!!!! And an early birthday to Max who will be 19 on the 23rd of January!!!

This Christmas met us with some difficult news just as last years did. Thursday before Christmas my mom was admitted to the hospital in Seward for another bowel obstruction. With nothing really 'moving along' in Seward, on Christmas Eve she was transferred to St. E's in Lincoln. There she meet with a surgeon who, while I am sure was very intelligent, didn't have the best people skills, scared us all that he was going to whisk her into surgery after her CT scan. And since she hemorrhaged last time...well he kinda just stopped there. Also said we would be naive to think that this wasn't cancer related.

Long story short, she didn't have surgery and was discharged Thursday. But there have still been many questions in the air. Her GI Dr. doesn't want to touch her and her oncologist didn't want to start anything until she sees the surgeon who did her operation last December. He specializes in gynecological surgeries. Well Stella meet with them today and he said that surgery wouldn't do her any good, because they are pretty sure that she has ovarian cancer and it 'sprayed' itself along her abdomen. Meaning that they removed all of the cancer that was big enough to remove and now they need to kill the tiny cancer that is along her insides. He believes that the bowel obstructions and the fluid mass are all things that the cancer is causing.

So next week she meets with the oncologist again and they will start chemo. It sounds like it will be similar to last time 6 rounds on a 3 week cycle, but it will be more directed towards ovarian cancer.
